Power 2 the People

Many companies give back to their communities using the same approach: decisions are generally made by one team or department managing the company’s overall philanthropic activities. Very few involve employees in deciding where their efforts should be focused or even encourage them to get involved. According to an Imagine Canada survey, in 2009 only 18% of corporations encouraged employees to raise money and only 9% made matching grants for employee contributions.

Softchoice’s employees raise a ton of money each year, and the Softchoice Cares Board directs funds to different charities and technology-related causes. But with a company full of employees who are passionate about a wide range of causes, the board saw an opportunity to give them the chance to have a bigger say in where the funds should go. That was the ignition point for Softchoice’s new Power 2 the People campaign! [Read more…]

Softchoice Cares + 7 IT Companies = A future for 500

When I heard about the Softchoice Cares mission to Bali I was intrigued. The thought of twelve employees going half way around the world to build computer labs for local kids is pretty inspiring and rare. But I was even more amazed by the number of partners who were going out of their way to contribute. Servers, networking gear, laptops, software – you name it, it was being offered.

As a newcomer to IT, I knew Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, Lenovo, Faronics and Sophos as big powerful tech companies. But I never had a sense of the people behind these organizations. President’s Club 2011 – Costa Rica

It’s no easy feat to find a breathtaking country that can cater to 80 of our employees from all across North America! But, never fail – we found it in Costa Rica. The  country’s beautiful town of Tamarindo welcomed all of us in May for President’s Club 2011! The annual trip is an exclusive opportunity for the top performers of the previous year to connect with each other and the Softchoice Leadership team.

As a corporate events specialist, I’m lucky to be involved in different facets of the Company – including many of the fun and exciting trips abroad! For those lucky 80 that headed south, I wanted to provide them with a memorable experience they’ll be talking about for a lifetime. Executing overseas corporate events can be tough thanks to time differences, language barriers and more. Behind the scenes, it’s not so glamorous but the feedback I received from attendees was fantastic!  Guests told us how much fun they had and how much they loved the resort.

The trip had tons of really radical highlights including an Afternoon Snorkel Sail. When guests weren’t diving into snorkel and check out the tropical sea life, they enjoyed the Costa Rican waters aboard a spacious boat. One guest commented, “Nice boat, great crew and service – made a very nice Guara Sour! Seeing the octopus was a treat.”

From water to land, our  other adventurous guests had the opportunity to [Read more…]
