An Overview Of The Top 3 Converged Infrastructure Offerings

Even with the latest infrastructure technology, IT departments must continue to support applications running in both bare-metal and virtualized environments. This causes a few problems for IT managers including:

  1. Staggering growth means complex infrastructures need to become more efficient to adapt dynamically to workload demands and use servers, storage, networking and power optimally.
  2. Manual assembly requires time consuming, error-prone support for every step from server refresh to cloud computing for siloed, hierarchical, point-to-point infrastructures.
  3. Multiple switching layers and fragmented management tools make it difficult to observe, manage, debug network traffic and support the latest applications that can leverage on-premise, private cloud and off-premise resources.
  4. Administrator productivity suffers when rushed to configure new servers to keep up with scale. Also, operations often take up more time than is spent on strategic planning.

Before you rip-and-replace, have you considered a converged infrastructure?

Softchoice Services Makes a Splash at CiscoPlus

Softchoice was recently an exhibitor at the annual CiscoPlus (formerly known as Cisco Networkers) technology conference and tradeshow in Toronto.

It was a great opportunity for us to share our perspectives on how we can help our customers build better businesses through Softchoice Services, and also a great way to see old friends, colleagues and partners.

Our theme was “Accelerating Your Cisco Architecture with Softchoice Services,” so we complemented that with an Indy car racing background (you’ll see in the video below), and we hosted discussion areas around Borderless Networks, Data Center, Unified Collaboration and Keystone Managed Services. In keeping with the theme, we also had a very popular Indy Racing Game so participants could test out their Indy racing form, in preparation for our draw for two tickets to the Toronto Honda Indy in July. Mind The Data Protection Gap [Symantec]

It’s time to take backup of virtual environments seriously.

While virtualization makes almost everything easier in the data center, one area that’s fallen behind is backup. In fact, in 2011, Symantec identified customers taking shortcuts to protecting information in physical and virtual environments, as if virtual systems were less important and companies were willing to lose them.

That could mean some major failures in data center recovery in the months and years ahead, if something doesn’t change.

Here are some simple steps organizations can take to centralize backup and recovery of physical and virtual server environments: [Read more…]
