One of the ways Microsoft is trying to help customers save money and also get them to adopt more Microsoft into their virtual environment is through the Enrollment for Core Infrastructure (ECI) agreement. In the current IT environment, customers are finding themselves as the owners of very powerful technology with very little utilization. Estimates actually show that eighty-five percent of IT capacity is idle on average. When one considers the costs of that hardware as well as the costs to power and cool those machines that are simply sitting unused it can get dizzying. Add into that mix the increased mobility of today’s workforce (the introduction of smart phones and tablets) and the desire of employees to work remotely.
