What defines a company’s culture? Is it being allowed to bring your dog to work? Paid volunteer days? Social beer carts?

While all of these examples are benefits of working at Softchoice, a huge part of our award-winning corporate culture is our employee recognition programs. One of our biggest, Softchoice President’s Club, rewards the company’s best of the best every year with a week-long trip to an exciting destination. [Read more…]

Making Traditions Part of Softchoice’s Corporate Culture

Traditions are a valuable way to strengthen families and create lasting memories. Often passed on through generations, many rituals can be quite unique; yet also bridge divides and boost the spirit of a family unit. When it comes to the larger corporate family, traditions are also a fantastic way to drive engagement and strengthen coworker relationships. In fact, Human Resources expert Susan Heathfield agrees saying they’re as “important in companies just as they are in families” and a great way to increase employee morale and motivation.

I quickly realized this when I arrived as a newbie intern at Softchoice’s company-wide, employee conference. Every January this standing experience called Launch, kick starts the year ahead for Softchoice’s employees. What started out as a small gathering of a few employees when the company was founded in 1990, has grown to a 1200-person, weeklong event that has continued even during tough economic times.

Being new to Softchoice, I went on a mission to find out…why has the Launch tradition become so entrenched in the company’s culture? [Read more…]

How 115 Softchoice Employees Gave Back to a Costa Rican Community

At one point in our lives, we’ve heard someone utter the phrase – “It’s better to give, than to receive.”  Kathleen Simard, Softchoice Outbound Sales Rep in Atlanta recalls her mother saying this to her as a child. However, it wasn’t until her recent trip to Costa Rica when those words rang true for Kathleen and really came to life.

As one of 115 recipients of Softchoice’s President’s Club award, Kathleen ventured to the beautiful country of Costa Rica to celebrate with the company’s best of the best. And while the top performers in the organization were there to celebrate a year’s worth of accomplishments, they achieved something even greater in just one day in Costa Rica. In the spirit of Softchoice Cares, our employees took time to give back to the local community and assembled and presented 50 local school children with brand new bicycles, backpacks full of school items and new desks! President’s Club 2011 – Costa Rica

It’s no easy feat to find a breathtaking country that can cater to 80 of our employees from all across North America! But, never fail – we found it in Costa Rica. The  country’s beautiful town of Tamarindo welcomed all of us in May for President’s Club 2011! The annual trip is an exclusive opportunity for the top performers of the previous year to connect with each other and the Softchoice Leadership team.

As a corporate events specialist, I’m lucky to be involved in different facets of the Company – including many of the fun and exciting trips abroad! For those lucky 80 that headed south, I wanted to provide them with a memorable experience they’ll be talking about for a lifetime. Executing overseas corporate events can be tough thanks to time differences, language barriers and more. Behind the scenes, it’s not so glamorous but the feedback I received from attendees was fantastic!  Guests told us how much fun they had and how much they loved the resort.

The trip had tons of really radical highlights including an Afternoon Snorkel Sail. When guests weren’t diving into snorkel and check out the tropical sea life, they enjoyed the Costa Rican waters aboard a spacious boat. One guest commented, “Nice boat, great crew and service – made a very nice Guara Sour! Seeing the octopus was a treat.”

From water to land, our  other adventurous guests had the opportunity to [Read more…]
