Project Connect: Finding our Corporate Giving Sweet Spot

It used to be about getting out there and swinging a hammer. Perhaps a bit of painting or cleaning up the job site, a few moments to compare calluses with your co-workers and then heading home knowing you’ve done a good turn. Volunteering on a Habitat for Humanity build was (and still is) a nice way to spend the day.  But in many respects even a hundred such builds don’t come close to equaling the kind of difference we could really be making as a company.

Recognition at Softchoice:The Fashionable Side of Employee Rewards

The history of the necktie traces back to 1618. During the 30 Year War, pieces of cloth worn around the necks of Croatian mercenaries caught the eye of Parisians. They dubbed it the “cravat” and a fashion craze exploded. Softchoice has taken the necktie fashion craze even further…not only with a jacket, but by fashioning it into one of the company’s most prestigious sales awards – the Softchoice Tie Jacket Award.

So where did such a crazy idea come from?  [Read more...]

Seattle Fundraising

Scott Stiven, a TSR from the Seattle office, organized a very succesful evening of golf at Greenlake’s Pitch N Putt. Below is Scott’s recap of the event:

The First Annual Softchoice Cares (It’s For The Kids) Pitch N Putt Golf Tournament-aka the 5th Major-  was a tremendous success as we managed to raise over $1300 and had some fun in the process.  Though I am confident we won’t be losing any current Softchoice employees to the PGA anytime soon, I do believe that this will become a Softchoice Cares tradition for years to come.

We couldn’t have done this event without the help of our event sponsors, CA, Prowess and F5, who generously donated cash, food, libations and prizes to the cause.  Softchoice’s own Ryan Hirst took home top honors and the coveted Blue Champions Jacket by having the best individual score.  Unsurprisingly, Karl “Tiggy” Tegtmeyer won a flip camera for his amazing accuracy on the 9th and final hole.

In all, the weather was nice, the food was good and the beer was cold.  Another fantastic event for Softchoice Cares.

6th Annual Seattle Golf Tournament

The 6th Annual Seattle Golf Tournament took place on August 25th -a beautiful, warm sunny day. The event was a huge success in many ways! Every year the Seattle OB team donates some amazing prizes to be raffled and auctioned to clients. All the proceeds go to Softhoice Cares. This year we raised about $1500 with donations from clients, partners, vendors and Softchoice employees.

The purpose of the golf event is really  customer appreciation but Softchoice Cares has had an increasing role each year. I have been part of the event for four years now and every year we do a better job of promoting Softchoice Cares and educating everyone of the cause they are donating to. This year Karly, our Softchoice Cares Chairperson, provided an overview of Softchoice Cares at the lunch after the tournament. There was great feedback from clients since they really started to understand what they were donating to. Below is a great client email regarding the tournament:

I just wanted to follow up with a warm hearted THANK YOU for putting on such an amazing event last week.  It was AMAZING!!!

The golf tournament was one of the best run I have ever been a part of.  The people were amazingly nice and took care of everything.  The vendors were also fantastic—they did not try a hard sell but rather were there to ask questions and several had fun games to play while waiting on the tee.  That is unheard of and honestly I really enjoyed talking with them.  The golf course was of course amazing and the food fantastic.  I also enjoyed learning about the “Softchoice Cares” fundraiser project and that was neat to incorporate into the event.

Michael and I could not have a better day while away from the office.  Please tell everyone involved Thank You, Thank You Thank You from Slalom Consulting!

The Seattle team really appreciates everyone’s participation and help to make this event so fabulous!

Volunteering for Operation Sack Lunch Puts Feeding the Homeless in a New Light

There’s a common misconception that if a disadvantaged person needs food, they will eat anything. Operation Sack Lunch (OSL), a local Seattle not-for-profit, is turning this notion on its head.

This past August I spent a day volunteering for OSL along with 11 other Seattle Softchoice employees. OSL operates on the premise that “nutritional excellence is a right we are born to, not a privilege we earn”. With this guiding principle they have provided more than 2.9 million hot meals and sack lunches to homeless and no or low income people who call Seattle their home. [Read more...]
